Hey! Hey, friends! We have gotten a whole lot done over the last week! And thank goodness we did, there are only 2 weeks left in the One Room Challenge. You can read our past ORC posts here: Week 1 / Week 2 / Week 3
We finally have our convertible sofa (posted about here)! I made a few of the pillows and I bought a few pillows. I found the hello pillow cover and the blue and white cover at Hobby Lobby. Did you know they have a plethora of zipper pillow covers?! I got these for less than $7 each! I’m smitten with this little cloud pillow that we scored from Ikea.
(The lighting is off a bit, because the tree in front of the window is casting a green hue into the room.)
As you can see, I’m working on making a gallery wall right above it. The art is mostly from a pad I picked up at Hobby Lobby. It’s by Me & My Big Ideas. I’m kind of obsessed with it. It’s 33 ready to hang prints in various sizes. The prints are on high quality card stock, and they even include layout ideas and frame sizes. They make about 4 different ones, and I want to buy them all! I pick it up at Hobby Lobby for $7! The navy frames were 3 for the price of 1 at Michael’s. I have gray and white ones from Ikea that I still need to put up on the wall. (I used store credit to get those, so technically they were free!)
I didn’t have any extra 8×10 frames, so I decided to be a little more casual and use thumb tacks. I found these really cute arrow ones at Target for $3.
The book holder is a find from Home Goods. I’m not sold on the color – or lack thereof. I would like to add something to it, but I am not sure what yet.
You may have noticed the shelves… it was nuts trying to pull those things off! We don’t have a lot of money budgeted for this room redo, so spending $400 to make industrial shelves was just not going to work. We did these for right around $198. Eep! Listen, I know that’s still a lot of money, but it’s a lot less than people normally spend. Michael is going to post a tutorial and all the details on how we saved money on Friday. For now let’s just stare at the shelves.
I still need to actually put things on the shelves. We’re still working on baskets and bins for toy storage. What you see on there now is 2 book boxes. I thought the boxes would be a fun way to store a few of their smaller toys.
I plan to put a magnetic board and an area for dress up clothes in the space under the longer shelves. We need to see if we can have our router and modem moved first, however. If we can’t move them from those outlets, then we have to come up with some creative way to disguise them and keep them out of reach of the kiddos.
On the other side of the room we have the desk / art area.
I spray painted an old folding chair that we had, and recovered the seat with fabric I found at Hobby Lobby. I also used part of an old memory foam mattress topper to add a little extra cushion to the seat. I still have some styling and organizing to do to this area. I don’t really like where the bird clips are, and there are few other things I would like to tweak.
We also changed out the light. Michael was afraid the other one would get broken, so we swapped it for this one that I DIYed for $22! I’m still pretty excited that this amazing light was so cheap to make. It was not so easy to hang and the reason why today’s post is going up later than desired.
So that’s where we are for week 4. There is a lot of organizing and tweaking left to be done. I also want to make two floor poofs, which I’ve put off due to intimidation. Has anyone else made floor poofs? Are they as hard as I imagine?
Be sure to check out all the other participants that are linking up here. I know I said this last Thursday, but there really are some amazing room transformations happening!
